Two nursing aides at Wingate at Sharon were caught on camera mishandling 93-year-old resident, Dorothy. The hidden camera, which was set up by Dorothy’s family, captured the two nursing aides tossing her into her wheelchair and even pulling her hair.
According to Fox25 News, Dorothy’s granddaughter, Kristen said, “I’m disgusted. I’m sickened by it. She’s defenseless. We trusted this place to take care of her, and this is what was taking place in their facility.”
Kristen has taken it upon herself to send letters to lawmakers in hopes of passing an electronic monitoring bill, which will allow nursing home residents to have a camera installed in their room to keep an eye on them at all times.
I’ve posted several articles on elder abuse in the past few months and it seems that cases like these are becoming more frequent. Check out a similar article here.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again … if you have an elderly family member living in a personal care home or that has a personal care worker caring for them in their home, just make sure that they’re receiving the treatment that they deserve. Planting a hidden camera in their home is one way to do it, but you’ll need their consent first.
