89 year-old war veteran, Peter Carpenter, noticed on several occasions that his wallet was missing cash.
With the aid of his family, Mr. Carpenter installed a hidden camera inside his house.
The hidden camera caught his caregiver, Susan Pell, pocketing cash from his wallet on numerous occasions.
Peter Carpenter, who suffers from arthritis and has an aneurysm, hired Susan Pell to care for him twice a week.
Whenever Mr. Carpenter would step out of the room, she would use the opportunity to steal money out of his wallet.
Pell was charged with the crime and given a year-long community service order and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service.
Mr. Carpenter’s case is a prime example of the benefits of using a hidden camera.
As mentioned in my Top Reasons to Own a Hidden Camera blog post, more than half a million reports of abuse against elderly Americans reach authorities every year, and millions more cases go unreported.
Using hidden cameras in the homes of the elderly brings us one step closer to solving this problem.
